Gifted & Talented

At Hunters Hill High School, gifted and talented students are identified, nurtured and extended across all areas of the school's curriculum within a comprehensive school environment. In addition, students are offered a wide array of co-curricula and extra-curricula opportunities to pursue and develop particular talents and interests.

  • Extension classes in Years 7 and 8 offer gifted and talented students access to challenging learning experiences to further explore areas of the school's curriculum in-depth.
  • Graded classes in Years 9 to 12, further develop gifted and talented students within their particular areas of talent and interest.
  • Senior students studying for the Higher School Certificate, select subjects for study from an extensive range of courses. Extension Courses are offered in English, Mathematics, History and Languages Other Than English (LOTE) for those students who wish to further extend their learning in particular fields.
  • Students compete very successfully each year in all the course-specific Australasian Competitions and excel in the Tournament of Minds, in which at least one team is entered annually.
  • Debating and Public Speaking are popular, with students competing very successfully in all competitions.
  • The school's acclaimed Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble offer musically talented students opportunities to perform with others of similar expertise and passion.
  • Variety Night, held annually, showcases students' talents in drama, dance and music.
  • Talented Visual Arts students annually enter works in the Hunters Hill Council's Young in Art competition and are highly successful in winning most of the major prizes in all categories.
  • Talented sportsmen and sportswomen have myriad opportunities to compete in all sports and at all levels of competition from Zone to Australian representation. The school and individuals currently hold championship status in many sporting arenas.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme affords students opportunities to develop skills in leadership, team work and resilience.
